The heart of downtown Jackson will soon be home to a beautiful new public green space! Margaret Ann Crigler Park is coming to life adjacent to the Two Mississippi Museums, creating a vibrant outdoor destination for visitors and locals alike.
This exciting project will feature:
- Native Mississippi foliage
- A spacious open green area
- An outdoor stage for performances
- A treehouse-inspired children's play area
The park represents a return to Jackson's original 1822 design, which included public green spaces on alternating blocks. It will serve as a cultural hub where museum visitors can reflect on their experiences while enjoying nature, and it creates another anchor point along the city's Museum Trail.
Generous Supporters Making It Possible
The project has attracted significant community support, including:
- The first $1 million donated by retired businessman Noble T. Crigler (the park is named after his late wife)
- A $1 million grant from the Community Foundation for Mississippi's John and Lucy Shackelford Fund
- $3 million from the Mississippi Legislature and additional funding from the Mississippi Arts Commission, a state agency
- The Walker Foundation and other private donors
This new park will not only beautify downtown Jackson but also create a space where people can gather, learn, and connect with both nature and each other. It's another wonderful chapter in the ongoing story of Mississippi's vibrant capital city.
The park will be administered by MDAH.
