The award-winning Mississippi Children’s Museum (MCM) is a fun-filled wonderland designed for children ages 1 and up.
Mom, dad, and kids of all ages can spend the day playing and (shhh!) learning while they’re at it.
From the state-of-the-art makerspace in Wonderbox, to the puppet theater and storytime in Wild About Reading, to outdoor fun in the Pollinator’s Playground, there's something for every age group and every interest. While you're outside, check out the Literacy Garden’s giant treehouse, giant storytelling pink mushrooms, and sunken amphitheater perfect for performing spur-of-the-moment plays.
Inside, Express Yourself through painting and drawing, dancing and singing, and use musical flipflops to “play” the tubes. Kids can even write a song and record it in the studio! Visual artists will love making glowing artwork on the giant LiteBrite. Future writers can play a game of Scrabble with tiles the size of textbooks or compose a poem.
Budding explorers can hunt for fossils, steer a shrimping boat, get lost in the wild piney woods, go fishing, or peek inside a replica of the State Capitol in Exploring Mississippi. Milk a cow, drive a real car, or use a giant crane in The World at Work. Future doctors and nurses will want to explore the digestive system in the Gastro Climber: in through the mouth, crawl through the stomach and intestines... and swish! down the slide and out.
The 50,000-square-foot facility is also home to native plants, innovative technology and traveling exhibits, and there’s something special almost every day. The museum hosts two dozen major events throughout the year including their Dr. Seuss Silly Birthday Celebration, the adults-only Neon Nights, Park in the Dark (Halloween) and Christmas events. Also available for children’s birthday parties.
Only have an hour here?
Make your way down the grand staircase and visit our newest STEAM exhibit, WonderBox! Build a CRAFT and watch it fly, make a design on the giant illumination station (inspired by LiteBrite) and learn about popular inventions from Mississippi’s STEAM experts. Next, head to the Mississippi River and fish for catfish, build a barge, and captain a shrimp boat, all while learning about Mississippi’s unique culture and geography. Quick! Head to the nation’s largest permanent Scrabble Board and see who can get the most points in five minutes. Time to use your imagination and get some fresh air in the Literacy Garden, while reading The Enchanted Land of Story by Sherry Norfolk. End your visit by exploring the digestive system in the popular Gastroclimber and get flushed.
Open Tuesday - Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 1 - 6 p.m. Closed Mondays.
GA tickets are $13 (under age 1 free). Mississippi Children's Museum is one of four attractions included in a LeFleur Museum District Pass (passes start at $18).
