In April 1991, the Mississippi Sports Foundation was conceived over a casual lunch at a Jackson eatery.
Today, with enthusiastic statewide support and some 500,000 visitors later, this once casual concept proudly stands as “Mississippi’s First Museum for the 21st Century.”
Open since 1996, the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum has been wowing guests with its award-winning collection of memorabilia covering a whole racing form full of sports.
The Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame honors over 300 athletes, coaches, and influential sports icons with a connection to the Magnolia State in baseball, football, basketball, auto racing, boxing, golf, softball, tennis, and track and field.
The Hall of Fame also offers annual awards, including the C-Spire Conerly Trophy to the top collegiate football player, the Kent Hull Trophy to the most outstanding offensive lineman in senior college football, and the Outstanding College Player Awards for top college athletes in football, basketball, and baseball. See the calendar for all awards and annual events, and become part of the action by buying a brick on the Walk of Fame!
Just as sporting events are vibrant, moving celebrations of athletic prowess, the exhibits in the museum tell Mississippi's sports history through a self-guided experience of archival footage of games, interviews, and stats designed to help visitors "get into the game." It's an excellent location for sports-loving children ages five and up. Future athletes can throw a baseball or kick a soccer ball in our Hall of Fame Stadium, play various games on the MotionMagix play floor or the TouchWall, or begin a career as a sportscaster in the Broadcast Booth.
The Trustmark Conference Center or the entire museum is available for rental for seminars, trade shows, reunions, wedding rehearsals, or birthday parties.
Open Monday - Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Closed Sundays. GA tickets are $5 (under age five free).
Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum is one of four attractions included in a LeFleur Museum District Pass (passes start at $18). Visit them all in one day, or spread your visits across several trips! Includes Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum, Mississippi Children's Museum, Mississippi Agriculture & Forestry Museum, and Mississippi Museum of Natural Science.
