Housed in the former Deep South Pops location on State Street in Belhaven, Native Coffee "exists to bring quality coffee to the quality people of Jackson."

Matt Flinn had several years of specialty coffee experience handling sales, social media, marketing, and cold brew production in North Carolina. "[When] the owner…told me he was selling the company… that gave me the perfect transition to move back to Mississippi," said Flinn. The shop serves North Carolina's Black & White Coffee Roasters products and food like biscuits, cinnamon rolls, muffins and chocolate chip cookies.

Now with two plus years under their belts – the shop opened in April 2020 with curbside pickup – patrons are welcome in the space's three spacious rooms that share the warmth of natural wood surfaces, abundant natural light, and calm shades of grey interspersed with colorful furniture and decor. "Our goal was to have a place that feels like home," said Flinn. "Our style, I would say, is accessibly elegant. We aren't fancy, but we aren't industrial."

In addition to serving delicious coffee and snacks, Native Coffee also offers coffee catering for events and meetings. Flinn is excited about the future and balancing production and building community.

"My ideal would be to oversee the café and manage production while Anna roasts," Flinn explains. "Our main goal was to establish a quality coffee shop where we could build a reputation for consistently great coffee and service, education in our community, and cultivate a sense of belonging in our shop." The couple's next goal is to develop their roasting with the help of Black & White and launch a roastery. Stay tuned!
