Hunter Evans Nominated for Beard Best Chef South 2025

Hunter Evans, Executive Chef of Elvie's at Belhaven Town Center, has been named a semifinalist for Best Chef South in the prestigious 2025 James Beard Awards®. The announcement comes as part of the James Beard Foundation's 35th anniversary of the awards program.

This is the third year in a row that Evans has been nominated for the award.

Evans joins an elite group of culinary professionals recognized for their exceptional talent and commitment to excellence in the restaurant industry. The Best Chef South category acknowledges outstanding chefs who set high standards in their culinary skills and leadership of their respective establishments.

Also representing Mississippi in the Best Chef South category are Jesse Sumrall and Austin Sumrall of White Pillars in Biloxi.

Winners will be announced at the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards ceremony on June 16, 2025, at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, with nominees being revealed on April 2.

The James Beard Awards® are considered among the nation's most prestigious culinary honors, celebrating excellence across the restaurant industry while recognizing commitment to equity, sustainability, and inclusivity.
